RiceLayer is a browser extension that restyles the appearance of the webpage you are looking at using CSS only. Our core promise: we change how a website looks, never how it works, and never by reading your private data.
This policy describes how the RiceLayer browser extension and its supporting backend service handle information. If you have any questions, contact us at cimmonster1@gmail.com.
To restyle a page, RiceLayer reads the page's structure: element counts, detected structural roles (such as navigation, cards, forms), the existing color palette, a typography summary, and layout density. This analysis happens entirely in your browser and is not transmitted unless you explicitly request an AI-generated theme (see below).
chrome.storageYour preferences — selected presets, per-site theme settings, saved themes, and whether a theme should auto-reapply on a given site — are stored locally in your browser. You can delete them at any time from the extension's Options page or by removing the extension. This data is not sent to us.
When (and only when) you ask RiceLayer to generate a theme from a text prompt, it sends a minimized, value-free summary of the current page to our backend so a theme can be generated. Specifically:
example.com)| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Local page structure | Generate or apply a CSS-only theme on the current page |
| Preferences & saved themes | Remember your choices so you don't reconfigure each site |
| Structural summary + prompt | Generate an AI theme via our backend; returned as CSS only |
We do not use any information for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, or any purpose unrelated to restyling the page you chose.
To produce AI-generated themes, our backend sends the value-free structural summary and your prompt to Google's Gemini API, which returns theme data as strict JSON / CSS only. Your use of this feature is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. The AI provider's API key is read only on our server from its environment and is never exposed to the browser. We do not use any other analytics, advertising, or tracking third parties.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
activeTab | Act only on the tab you explicitly click the extension on — not across all browsing. |
scripting | Inject the content script and CSS-only theme layer into that active tab after you activate it. |
storage | Save your preferences and per-site theme settings locally. |
| Host permission (backend) | Contact our backend API to generate AI themes. Broad host access is optional and requested per-site only when you choose "always apply on this site." |
RiceLayer does not load or execute remote JavaScript, WebAssembly, or other remote code. All executable logic ships inside the extension package; the backend returns only CSS theme data, which is sanitized before use.
Preferences and saved themes remain in your browser until you delete them or remove the extension. Structural summaries sent for AI generation are used to fulfill the request and are not used to build user profiles. We do not maintain user accounts.
Page analysis is value-free by design, requests are transmitted over HTTPS, and theme CSS is sanitized at multiple layers (server and extension) before it is ever applied. Sensitive pages such as banking, login, and checkout are treated cautiously and protected by default.
RiceLayer is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
